To Kill a King - Review on LoveReading
Liz Robinson of LoveReading.co.uk has posted this wonderful review of To Kill a King prior to it's release on the first of February
“Here we are at the eighth in the immensely powerful and rousing Master of War series set in the 14th century during the Hundred Years’ War. Sir Thomas Blackstone, King Edward’s Master of War finds himself battling on all fronts in an attempt to support the Prince Of Wales against the King of France. There are two stories on offer here, the first featuring Blackstone, and the second Henry, Blackstone’s son, as he attempts to join his father. This is so beautifully written, you could step into the middle of the series and read this as a standalone, but if you haven’t yet joined, do start with the first, Master of War. I absolutely love David Gilman’s writing, no matter the period or style, he has the ability to capture your attention from the get-go, and thoroughly immerse you in the world of extreme action he creates. Blackstone is a particular favourite of mine (along with his feisty horse!), honourable yet prepared to do what needs to be done, his men follow him into the darkest and most violent of places. The authentic historical setting, camaraderie amongst the men, and desperate deeds in the height of battle, all help to create a gripping and oh-so readable tale of heroics and death. To Kill a King is one of those books that you want to gallop through and savour at the same time, it comes with a whopping thumbs up from me”.
